I live to cook! It’s an integral part of every single day. When we’re away on vacation a sad as I am for our holiday to end, I’m thrilled to get back into the kitchen. Although we haven’t been away, we have been dieting and so I’ve been really careful about what I’ve been cooking. And forget about baking-what’s the point of whipping all that butter and sugar together to create some tasty treat if you can’t indulge in your creation?
Thankfully, it being August, there’s an abundance of beautiful produce around and vegetables make for good low calorie dinners. That being said, I’ve been craving a hamburger. In the spirit of trying to cook low fat foods I was determined to find some way to satisfy my urge. I then remembered a recipe that I had seen in an old Bon Appetit for turkey burgers. What we really drew me in were the Indian flavors spicing up this dish. The finished product was just what I was searching for-a burger with lots of flavor, yet a lot less fat, topped with a tasty sauce to spice it up a bit.
Bombay Sliders with Garlic Curry Sauce
1 cup mayonnaise, divided
6-1/4 teaspoons curry powder, divided
1-1/2 tablespoons plain yogurt
1-1/2 tablespoons ketchup
1 garlic clove, minced
2 pounds ground turkey
6 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
1/4 cup minced onions
2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger
2 teaspoons ground cumin
3/4 teaspoon hot chile powder or Hungarian hot paprika
1 teaspoon salt
Mix 3/4 cup mayonnaise, 2-1/4 teaspoons curry powder and the next 3 ingredients in small bowl for sauce. Let stand at room temperature. In an attempt to lighten this up a bit, I used a lot less mayo and increased the amount of yogurt and the sauce was still delicious.
Place the turkey and the next 6 ingredients, the remaining 1/4 cup of mayo and 4 teaspoons curry powder in large bowl. Mix with your hands until just blended-do not overmix. Divide mixture into 12 equal portions for sliders. If you want larger burgers, form into 4 portions. Using wet hands, form each portion into a patty about 1/2″ thick.
You could do theses on a grill, or broiler pan or in a skillet with a little bit of oil. Since this is turkey, make sure they are cooked through. Top with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and the curry sauce. Serves: 4

I can sure relate to the problem of loving to cook but also having the need to eat more healthy. I’ve been immersed in peaches, but, too often, that goes with dough and ice cream. . . your burger sounds awesome. I wish I had picked up ground turkey today.
